ABOUT “TRAVELS WITH Hula-HO” SERIES

A little plastic Hawaiian hula dancer hangs from the rear-view mirror in my car.  She has a colorful past.  Her time with me begins with a small group of very special friends.  We gather on occasion.  Sometimes we celebrate gatherings or stories or friendship with gifts, great or small.  On one such occasion, I gave us all identical hula dancers in honor of a certain trip and a remarkable story and event we shared as a result of the trip.

My little hula dancer has traveled with me for over two years, and has earned the moniker of Hula-HO in a story too long to tell here.

The important thing is that Hula-HO has apparently started having adventures of her own.  I was made aware of this on a long road trip around the Great Basin last year, when she showed up in over a third of my photographs of places traveled.

So I have begun this series as a means for Hula-HO to tell her story.  She sees things I miss.  She views life from a different perspective.  She is a charming and (dare I say?) wise companion.

Hula-HO is a spirit guide for me as I ponder life's questions on the road.

Hula-HO has begun dictating her thoughts to me, and you will find a snippet of these on the little pages that come with the paintings.  We are beginning to write a book, Hula-HO and I.   Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you posted on how it progresses.
