Worth revisiting periodically, this thoughtful and insightful film documents the art and the experience and backstories of 16 painters - women who in 2007 are living and working on this remote and rugged island off the coast of Maine.
The film puts these conversations in the role of Monhegan Island and its place in the history of American fine art. It continues to ask "where are the women?" in the history of painting, the history of art.
