Oregon's Lower Crooked River canyon has become one of my favorite plein air haunts. The visible story of its ancient, volatile geologic history tells of 52 million years, visible in layers and fantastic basalt formations. Dry desert heat meeting the river's humidity makes the light do mystical things.
